L'Arche Haiti is the oldest L'Arche community in Latin America, founded in 1976 - two years after L'Arche Kent.
L'Arche Haiti now has two small communities, one in Port-au-Prince and the other in Les Cayes, in the South of Haiti. The Port-au-Prince community consists of two houses, a workshop and a school. The school welcomes 15 core members and 15 external people with a learning disability.
We have just heard that all members of L'Arche in Haiti have survived the recent earthquakes though, as you will know, for Haiti and particularly Port-au-Prince, the situation is dire and will remain so for many years.
Even in the event that all our community members are physically unharmed, which we think is the case, there will be great financial needs in this shattered city, in an already desperately poor country.
As a community, we have begun to raise funds amongst ourselves to support our communities in Haiti. If you would like to donate, please do send us made payable to "ODF" (our overseas development fund) and on the back, write 'Donation to Haiti appeal'.
Thanks.
